Let it shine through. Don’t give one-word answers when having a conversation with the casting director. Ask questions! The industry is looking for smart, curious actors. Connect with your reader: Make one with the reader. Memorize the material or be familiar enough with it to maintain eye contact. Knowing the dialogue is important, but making a connection with the reader is what will make the scene natural and believable. Show variety: Feel the levels and dynamics in the scene. Don’t play one emotion. If the character is angry or tough, when might they show some vulnerability? Wannabe? Not you! Interesting, memorable auditions will start to happen for you when you dig into scripts with these thoughts in mind before and during your auditions.

Visualizing your audition from start to finish, as well as creating an audition playlist, are also great ways to ease tensions and get your head in the game. But ultimately, remember: what’s the worst that could happen? You don’t get cast? So what? There’s no use trying to fit into a box you don’t belong in—so on to the next! For self-tape auditions, you must have good lighting, a neutral background, the proper framing (not too wide, not too close), no distracting objects in the room (i.e. plants, pets, posters), and most importantly, good sound. You likely won’t get hired if they can’t hear you. Oftentimes, creatives are unavailable to attend every audition. Or auditions are being held nationwide and you’re submitting from Missouri to a casting director in L.A. Or the CD wants to get a feel for the network response before bringing you for an in-person. Sending a self-tape is one way to ensure you are in the running to get seen for the role—despite your lack of physical presence.

The purpose of the meeting is to give the agent a chance to determine if you can make it as an actor, so be ready to perform for the agent. That means to have a monologue prepared to recite at a moment’s notice and be prepared to do a cold reading from a script that the agent hands you. You should never be afraid to ask questions during your interview. Here are five questions you should ask during your meeting. Who will represent me from your agency? How many clients do you currently represent What kind of actor do you see me? How many other actors do you serve actors that are similar to me? How would you direct my career? The reality of limited technology access for women is a real issue in 2023 says Michaela Jamelska: Furthermore, despite the fact that online business and mobile money are still expanding, more than 900 million women are still excluded from the digital economy and do not have access to banking services. Bridging the digital gender gap not only requires infrastructure investments but also making digital technologies more affordable, as cost remains one of the key obstacles for women to access the Internet. In certain low income households, accessing the Internet entails having to sacrifice key household purchases such as food, health care and clothing (OECD, 2018b). In the past ten years, women’s exclusion from the digital sphere has reduced the GDP of low- and middle-income countries by $1 trillion. According to the UN Women, this limits not only their own digital empowerment, but also the transformative potential of technology as a whole.

Michaela Jamelska on Ai and Gender Equality: So, while more women tend to enter computer science roles, their numbers radically drop over time because female workers lack support, face discrimination, or the glass ceiling phenomenon, which essentially makes them transfer into another field. To claim, we have concluded that the number of women entering the technology field is just not enough. While this is not to say that women who enter the engineering field must stay in it for 20 years, to optimize the numbers, we need to empower women who decide to change their careers later in life and grow their skills to receive new training in data science or computing to enter those fields in later years. Unfortunately, many fields act as some sort of elitist and exclusive human capital, refusing to bring in and train people, so that we can create a more polyvalent society. Current human rights declarations and treaties were drafted and ratified to real-world issues and circumstances, and they are already insufficient in the online environment. No matter how much AI large companies integrate into their new systems, the end-users/consumers will be humans, so human rights should be at the center of this technological development. Human rights concepts are often seen as too idealistic; however, they not only set the limits to extremism, they also promote a more tolerant, empathetic, and inclusive society. The time to have a say about human rights in the virtual world is now, but it is also the time for large corporations to not only answer the questions about how they will assure their technology will be human rights-centric but to set a budget for human rights and put the money where our fundamental rights should be … starting now.
